Last appearing with Live and Local 10 years ago, we were delighted to find Oxford Concert Party are still communicating their love and enthusiasm for excellent music to audiences of all types and in all sorts of venues. They’re regulars on BBC Radios 3 and 4.
They’re exceptionally versatile, with a repertoire of three hundred years of music from around the world which they turn upside down and infuse humour, energy, passion and pathos.
It’s a mix of Vivaldi, French café music, Argentinean tangos, Irish Laments and polkas from Finland and their name comes from the fact that they have a real sense of occasion, creating a party atmosphere wherever they play. They really have fun in their concerts with virtuoso performances, zany and offbeat (but never off-putting) humour.
The six musicians are led by Arne Richards who has a lovely way of getting an audience involved during a performance. It’s the kind of show where it’s not unknown for a few couples to get up and dance!
It’s an exciting and approachable musical evening that brings listeners young and old a lot of pleasure, perhaps jogging memories and certainly inspiring you to go out and listen some more. Ideal for an audience of all ages.

‘A pleasure to see musicians enjoying playing as I did listening. Amazing that 6 people could sound like a full orchestra. A real treat!…There are plenty of ensembles who give people the aesthetic pleasure that one expects from good music; I don’t know another group of players who make their audience so happy.’ – Village Promoters
“A decidedly unstuffy bunch of superb musicians…Look out for them whenever your spirits need a lift.” – The Daily Telegraph
